I Suck at Readathons. | Weekend Reads

Recently I said I was going to participate in the TBR Takedown. Twice to be exact. I failed exactly both of those times to read a single book. Not even from my TBR just in general. So now, here we are a few days a away from the Booktubeathon, which I've participated in once before and I'm considering participating again. Even though I don't have a booktube channel I've always sort of enjoyed the reading challenges from the Booktubeathon which are not mandatory requirements, but always fun. 

So far this year my readathon track record is horrendous and I'm a little scared to even consider attempting another one especially one like the Booktubeathon. I know it's supposed to be fun, but when I can't even read a single book during these readathons it takes a little bit more to motivate myself to try again.

I mean, it's not like I haven't been reading. Sort of. I'm always reading something, it's just that it takes some time for me to finish a book. I keep getting sidetracked or sometimes I just don't feel like reading. It seems like this is starting to change though, which is kind of pushing me to participate.
Anyways, this is what I'll be reading this weekend and (hopefully) finishing so that I can (maybe) participate in the Booktubeathon.

Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige -I've got 1/4 or so of the book left. Most likely finishing this today.
Zenith by Sasha Alsberg and Lindsey Cummings - I've read a little bit of it the day I got it and haven't picked it up since, because I've been reading other books, but hoping to finish it this weekend.
Maybe you'll see a Booktubeathon TBR soon, maybe not...we'll just have to wait and see, I guess. Also, I didn't read this post through.....oops.

Summer Reading Plans 2016

Every summer I plan on reading a bunch of contemporaries, because summer seems to be the perfect time for that. Of course I never get to all of them, but that doesn't matter because once again here is another summer TBR with too many summery contemporaries. This list isn't set particularly because (as I have come to learn) I'm a big mood reader. Also, if I buy new books and I might really want to read them first. I don't really know, but this is just a general idea of what I want to read this summer.

It's Been A While | Currently Reading

Okay, so I keep typing something up to explain why I've been away for so long, and then erasing it and rewriting it. Basically, I didn't know what I wanted to post and I didn't want to focus so much on trying to come up with something to post that I forgot about the reading part of it. So, you can say that I took a bit of an unannounced hiatus. I kept wanting to come back to the blog, but I didn't know how so I thought well, why don't we start with what I'm currently reading.

Next week there is the Fantastic Teen Reads event happening over at Books of Wonder featuring Roshani Chokshi, Sarah McCarry, Marie Rutkoski, and Renee Ahdieh. Earlier this month I finished reading The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh, and more recently The Winner's Curse by Marie Rutkski. I"m trying to get to at least one book by each other before the event. Right now I'm up to The Star Touched Queen by Roshani Chokshi, then I want to get to one of Sarah McCarry's books, and maybe if I have time I'll read The Winner's Crime by Marie Rutkoski.

If all goes well with the event I'm hoping I can do a post on that. I've never been to Books of Wonder, so I don't know what to expect. The only sort of book event that I've been to was the Rainbow Rowell Landline launch at Barnes and Noble, and then the two times I went to BookCon. Every place has their own way of running things, but I guess I'll have to wait and see. Other than that there are a few comics/graphic novels that I want to read.

I'm in the middle of Gotham Academy, Vol. 1. I checked out Giant Days, Vol. 2, and also Lumberjanes, Vol. 3 from the library. My library has been getting some of the newer young adult comics which is great and means that I don't have to buy all of them if I don't want to.

Looking back at what I'm reading and what I want to read for he next week, I'm slightly overwhelmed, but I think I can manage. I'm crossing my fingers that everything goes well at the event next week, and I have something to tell you guys about.

So Much Outlander! | Weekend Reads

I have a feeling that this month's wrap up will consist of only one book, and maybe if I'm lucky a graphic novel. Basically, Outlander has consumed my life. Whether that's a good or bad thing---I don't know.

This all started when I bought Outlander on my kindle, because it was $2.99 (probably still is). Some time after that I watched the first part of season one. My sister saw all of season one, and became so obsessed with it that she bought the anniversary edition with bookmark ribbon and all. Fast forward a few months when it occurred to me that we should read the book together.

The following was my thought process which lead me to the decision that February was the perfect time to read Outlander:

February = Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day = Love

Outlander = Jamie

Jamie = Love

We're supposed to be reading ten chapters a week which doesn't seem like that much, but these chapters are so long. Even reading it on my kindle feels like a drag. Don't get me wrong I'm enjoying it so far, but sometimes it's a struggle to get through a single chapter especially when I'm a slow reader (at least compared to the majority of book lovers/book bloggers). I'm thinking about modifying the schedule so that I can get another book in while reading Outlander, but I'll have to check with my sister first. That's pretty much what all of February has been like and probably what my weekend will consist of as well.

I don't know if it's because I'm reading the book now, or because the second season is starting soon, but I feel like I'm seeing Outlander/Jamie/Scottish related things everywhere now. There are coloring books, t-shirts, Funko Pops---there's just so much Outlander.

Has anyone read it or want to read it? I'll keep you posted on my progress...if there even is any.

Snowed In | WEEKEND READS

There is a snowstorm heading towards the northeast this weekend which means I get to read! I'm almost done with Amy and Roger's Epic Detour (I've got about 100 pages left), and then I'll finally get back to Six of Crows. I started reading that the day I got it, and then got completely sidetracked and just never got back around to reading it.

I'm most likely not going to finish that in a couple o days, but I want to start reading something else as well. This is probably why the original sidetracking occurred, but I'm going to try my best to not let that happen again. I'm thinking about picking up one of two books. Either Soulless by Gail Carriger or Passenger by Alexandra Bracken. 

I got Passenger in the mail last week and I'm really excited to read it, so I don't want the excitement to die down before then. The Lonely Genres Book Club is currently reading Soulless, but it's going on until next month. So I'm really not in that much of a rush to read it, but I want to at least start it.

Reading Goals 2016

My 2015 Goodreads Challenge was to read 50 books and I've read 43. Not exactly what I was going for especially when a lot of those were probably graphic novels.

1) For 2016 I want to read more, or at least reach my goal of 50 books for the year. The more I read the more content I have for the blog in terms of reviews and book inspired posts. 

2) I also want to read the books that I already own. In order to help me with that I'm going to participate in #ReadMyOwnDamnBooks. There aren't any real official rules except to read the books you already own. I went through the unread books I physically own and I got 36, but I usually put some in other places and forget about them so that's what I have for now.

3) There are books that I've owned for a long time that I want to read in 2016 for sure:

4) I'm considering creating a TBR jar where I write the title of all my unread books on slips of paper and putting them in a jar or container of some sort. Every month I'll pick out a random title and I have to at least read that book that month.

5) If I keep putting off certain books I have I need to either donate, sell, or give it to someone else. I don't have that much shelf space and I don't want to keep books that I'm not going to read.

So those are my goals/challenges/things I want to accomplish reading wise in 2016. I wanted to add another challenge like the PopSugar Reading challenge as a way to diversify what I read, but I'm going to focus on what I have so far and then maybe I'll take on another challenge.

Wisdom Teeth Recovery | WEEKEND READS

I haven't been updating all that much recently, because I've been recovering from getting all four of my wisdom teeth pulled on Tuesday. The actual procedure went pretty well, it's just been the recovery part that's been painful and annoying. My face is still slightly swollen and it hurts a bit, so I'm taking it easy. I tried reading a book the day after, but I honestly couldn't focus so I put it down.

This weekend I'm going to attempt to pick up a few graphic novels that have been sitting on my shelf. Then hopefully if I'm feeling better I'll finish The Raven Boys and Six of Crows. I don't really plan on reading many holiday/Christmas books this month. I don't have any on my shelf and I can't think of any that I really want to read, so most likely I'll be sticking to some the fantasies that I have on my shelf already (kind of want to read Falling Kingdoms).

R.I. Bound | WEEKEND READS

I'm visiting my sister at her school in Rhode Island this weekend, and it's a 3 to 4 hour trip there. I don't usually like reading in cars or buses. I get car sick very easily, but I'm going to try to pace myself. I'm currently reading Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff and also Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. I'm trying to finish Illuminae, so I can get a review up by Tuesday when the book comes out.

 

I don't think I'll actually get to Six of Crows this weekend, but it's always there if for some reason I finish everything I plan on reading. I'm only going to take Illuminae and two comics with me, because I'll be back by Sunday night. The two comics/graphic novels I'm taking are Ms. Marvel, Vol. 3: Crushed and Rat Queens, Vol. 1: Sass & Sorcery. I didn't want to carry too many books with me since Illuminae is pretty hefty, and Ms. Marvel and Rat Queens were on my TBR, so why not.
