Lara Jean's Strawberry Soda Float

With the cover reveal of P.S. I Still Love You, I've been on a To All the Boys I've Loved Before kick. Especially because of how well the book fits into the Valentine's Day theme. I had been thinking about doing something where I combine food and books. Luckily I have a culinary arts major sister, Katherine, who helped me out with this.

Lara Jean loves listening to Motown girl groups of the 1960's. I could definitely see her in a soda shop drinking a strawberry soda float.

2 or 3 scoops of ice cream (your choice)
club soda
Syrup:
1 1/2 cups water
1 cup strawberries (frozen or fresh)
1 cup sugar

To make the syrup:
Put the strawberries and water into a small saucepan.
Let it simmer over medium heat for 15 minute.
Strain the mixture and throw out the strawberries.
Skim all the foam (if there is any) off the top of the liquid.
Pour the strawberry water back into the saucepan and add the cup of sugar.
Bring it to a boil.
Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature.

This is what the syrup ended up looking like. [Note: You can substitute the strawberry syrup with a premade syrup such as grenadine, although it might not taste the same.]

Pour 2 oz of the syrup into a 12 oz glass (or whatever you want to use).

Pour the club soda into the glass until it's about 3/4 full. Stir the mixture. Taste it. You might want to add more syrup at this point.

Then add the scoops of ice cream to top it off. The one on the left was made with Coca-Cola.

Serve with some Valentine's day themed napkins, and pretty paper straws.

The heart paper straw is a quick DIY. All you need is some red construction paper, scissors, and tape.

Cut a heart out and tape it onto the straw. Done.

I hope you enjoyed this post. Let me know what you think of these kinds of posts. Also, what other books would you like to see featured here?
