2016 Reading Goals Wrap Up

Last year I beat myself up for not reading enough and not reaching my Goodreads challenge of 50 books. Well this year I did a lot worse and read a total of 28 books. My second goal was to read more of the books I already own, and I did okay with this. I'm reaching for books on my shelf more. I created a TBR jar and I was doing well with that until I stopped pulling books from the jar. I've gotten rid of a lot of books and I'm continuing to do this with books that I just don't plan on reading or rereading. 

2017 Reading Goals!

After my mostly failed reading goals from last year I've decided to refocus my goals.

1) Goodreads | I set my Goodreads Reading Challenge to 12 books. I've decided that if I can read at least one book (not graphic novel or comic book) a month then that's amazing and a lot better than I did all of last year. 

2) Read Books On My Shelf | I want to keep on reading books that I already own. Of course, I've added more to this in the past year, but hopefully I'll get to the ones that I've had for a while.

3) TBR Jar | I'm going to redo this and make a new list of the books that I own. This will help me get to the books that maybe I hadn't though of picking up anytime soon or even forgot that I had.

4) Read Diversely and Widely | Diversity is a topic that's been brought to the forefront of the book community this past year and it's one that's very important to me. I want to continue reading diverse books and reading books in genres outside of what I usually read.

August 2016 Paperback Releases | Cover Changes and Movie Tie-Ins

I usually do these posts for the people who prefer buying paperbacks over hardcovers whether it be because paperbacks are cheaper or because they are easier to carry around. Paperback releases aren't really promoted as much as the brand new hardcovers, so I put it all in one post to make it easier.

But this month there are quite a few cover changes along with the Ms. Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children movie tie-in edition. There is also a B&N exclusive paperback that contains movie photos. Let me know what you think of the cover changes. Also, do you mind movie/television tie-in editons?

Reading Goals 2016

My 2015 Goodreads Challenge was to read 50 books and I've read 43. Not exactly what I was going for especially when a lot of those were probably graphic novels.

1) For 2016 I want to read more, or at least reach my goal of 50 books for the year. The more I read the more content I have for the blog in terms of reviews and book inspired posts. 

2) I also want to read the books that I already own. In order to help me with that I'm going to participate in #ReadMyOwnDamnBooks. There aren't any real official rules except to read the books you already own. I went through the unread books I physically own and I got 36, but I usually put some in other places and forget about them so that's what I have for now.

3) There are books that I've owned for a long time that I want to read in 2016 for sure:

4) I'm considering creating a TBR jar where I write the title of all my unread books on slips of paper and putting them in a jar or container of some sort. Every month I'll pick out a random title and I have to at least read that book that month.

5) If I keep putting off certain books I have I need to either donate, sell, or give it to someone else. I don't have that much shelf space and I don't want to keep books that I'm not going to read.

So those are my goals/challenges/things I want to accomplish reading wise in 2016. I wanted to add another challenge like the PopSugar Reading challenge as a way to diversify what I read, but I'm going to focus on what I have so far and then maybe I'll take on another challenge.

Insurgent Movie. Was It Really That Bad?

It's been about a week since the release of Insurgent. I didn't watch or read any reviews until after I had seen the movie. Fast forward to Tuesday night. I didn't know how to feel about the movie. I wasn't a big fan of the book, and didn't really have any expectations for the movie. After having watched the movie I've watched a couple of reviews on youtube, and overall most people seem to be not very satisfied with the movie.

I was debating whether or not to do a review for this movie, but I don't know how to feel about it since I really didn't care what they did with the movie. There were certain things that they changed that left me wondering why they felt the need to change it. I definitely felt like it was rushed. Maybe it was because so much happened in the book and they just didn't have enough time.

The ending of Insurgent made it seem as though there wouldn't be another movie. I had to look up whether or not they were going to do Allegiant. I didn't read Allegiant, but I was spoiled. Allegiant is going to be split up into two parts. The first part coming out next year and the second part coming out in 2017. From what I've heard there isn't much to split into two movies. I wish they wouldn't follow the trend of splitting the last book up. If anything, they should have split up the second book.
