<br />
February and March were two months where I read books that I would consider important reads for people of all ages. Only one of the books would not be categorized as Young Adult, but could be read by anyone. These were books that I wasn't forcing myself to read. I picked them up, because those were the books that I wanted to read in that moment. That helped a lot in helping me read the books quickly and take them in as much as possible. Towards the end of March, those last three books I read were pretty close together.<br />

It took me a long time to get through this book, but it wasn't the actual book that slowed me down, it was me. I just wasn't motivated to pick up the physical book, but once I was able to borrow an e-book version from the library I got through it a lot quicker. I also saw the movie and I can't really say that I loved it. So far my favorite book has been Prisoner of Azkaban.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/869864.Monster" target="_blank">Monster</a> by Walter Dean Myers<br />
I finally picked this book up after seeing it at Barnes and Noble almost every time I went in there. This is not a traditionally formatted book. It's written in the form of a screenplay. These different book formats are interesting, but can sometimes take away from the story. That was not the case for this book. It's not the type of book where the ending is going to make complete sense and makes you think about why certain things happen and how they got to that point.<br />

<br />
<a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/29780258-born-a-crime" target="_blank">Born a Crime</a> by Trevor Noah<br />
I love Trevor Noah's comedy and his stand-up, and that's how I've gotten to know about him. He took over The Daily Show in 2015, so most people probably know him from that. Born a Crime is a collection of stories about his life growing up in South Africa during apartheid. It's a perfect blend of his comedy, story telling, and information about living in South Africa during that time.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/32075671-the-hate-u-give" target="_blank">The Hate U Give</a> by Angie Thomas<br />
I went out to get it as soon as I could and read it right after that. I wanted to read it before people really started sharing their opinions on it. Without giving too much away, this book was initially inspired by Oscar Grant and the Black Lives Matter movement. Other books have touched on the subject, but the hype that The Hate U Give got months before it even debuted brought an attention to it that was well needed. This gives you another perspective to something that is discussed on the news, but we never get to see the personal side of it.<br />

<a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2813153-thirteen-reasons-why" target="_blank">Thirteen Reasons Why</a> by Jay Asher<br />
Initially I wasn't going to read this book. Then my thirteen year old brother picked it up. Soon after that I started seeing the trailer for the Netflix show pop up everywhere. I borrowed it from my brother and started reading it really knowing nothing about it. I had a hard time deciding what to rate this, so I didn't. It's an important read, especially for someone around my brother's age where they're about to begin high school and these sort of experiences start happening more. Maybe not even to them personally, but just so that they're aware that bullying, sexual assault, rape, and so many other things that most are unaware of are things that kids deal with.<br />
<br />
<br />
I'm currently reading something completely different. After reading books that dealt with heavy topics, I wanted to take a bit of break and then maybe I'll pick something else up related to those books.<br />

<br /></div>
<span style="text-align: justify;">This was the point where I stopped rating every single thing I read because I found it difficult to put my feelings into words and give a star rating after reading some books. Also this is where I set my Goodreads challenge to 12 books. One book a month is my goal for 2017 not including comics or graphic novels. New year, new me?</span>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
This had been sitting on my shelf for the longest time and I'm glad I finally picked it up. It's the story of Sutter Keely in his senior year of high school. Academically he's an underachiever with no plans for college. What I learned about Sutter Keely by reading this book is that he likes to drink. A lot. He likes to party. A lot. He meets Aimee, a quiet girl from school that he had never noticed before meeting her when he wakes up on some random person's lawn one morning.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I don't know. I liked that it dealt with some serious issues and wasn't sugarcoated, but there were moments where I wasn't sure if I was just uncomfortable or if I really hated Sutter. I didn't end up rating this book, because I didn't hate the story, but I wasn't in love with the characters. If you don't want to waste your time reading it they made a movie that's a good adaptation.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">

<a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/28114572-girls-like-me" target="_blank"><b>Girls Like Me</b></a> by Lola StVil</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
This book is written in verse and text messages which I would have had no problem with if there had been a reason why. I thought I was the only who thought this, but after reading some of the reviews I realized I wasn't the only one. It just doesn't make sense. Because of this the story suffers. The characters aren't developed enough. The main character is the most forgettable one. I felt like I never really got to know her and I don't think there was any growth. I liked the concept behind this one, but unfortunately the execution fell flat. 2/5</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I had been meaning to pick this book up ever since it came out. There aren't enough books out there that feature Latina main characters especially in original and unique stories. This is an amazing diverse book set in Los Lagos, a beautiful fantastical world. Alex is a bruja (a witch), on her Death Day she wishes that she didn't have her powers anymore and instead of getting rid of them she gets rid of her family. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
There were a few bumps in the story where the pacing slowed down for me. It felt like the characters or the story were just going in a circle. I loved the family members and their relationships with Alex. I loved Nova, and the piece of backstory we get for him. I didn't like Rishi. I found her annoying at times and felt like she almost dropped in out of nowhere. (Bad pun. I know.) I'm interested in seeing where the other books go as they follow the other sisters.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Basically what the title says. As you may notice by taking a glance below, I read one short e-book in the month of October, and then read nothing at all in November because of a little thing called NaNoWriMo also known as National Novel Writing Month where writers think it's completely normal to attempt to write 50,000 words in a single month. In December I began to freak out because of the beautiful Goodreads challenge. To say the least I completely and utterly failed that and have since then changed my outlook on what it means to me. But seriously...I read almost nothing in three months, but here's my wrap up anyways.</div>
<br />
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
October 2016</h4>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="320" src="https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1461892337l/29749205.jpg" width="197" /></div>

<b style="text-align: justify;"><a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/29749205-zenith" style="text-align: justify;" target="_blank">Zenith: The Androma Saga Part 1</a></b><span style="text-align: justify;"> by Sasha Alsberg & Lindsay Cummings</span><br />
<span style="text-align: justify;">This is sort of a weird book to review, because what I read wasn't the actual complete story. This was initially set up to be the first part of a six (I might be wrong on the total amount) part series of e-books that would make up the story The Androma Saga. It was going to be self published, but after hitting the </span><a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/BHQkMQMDsf9/?taken-by=sashaalsberg&hl=en" style="text-align: justify;" target="_blank">#1 New York Times Bestseller list for Young Adult E-Books</a><span style="text-align: justify;"> it was picked up by Harlequin Teen where the entire story will be published. </span>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This first part sets up the characters and where they are on their journey, but never really takes off. (Bad pun not intended.) I can see how they had planned to continue the story, but had they continued releasing it in parts I don't know if I would have picked up the next one. I did find the characters interesting. The group and their friendships reminded me of <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/20299683-rat-queens-vol-1" target="_blank">Rat Queens</a>. Now that it's going to be released in its entirety I'll most likely be picking it up in August. 3/5<br />

<b><a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/20560137-an-ember-in-the-ashes" target="_blank">An Ember in the Ashes</a></b> by Sabaa Tahir<br />
It took me a while to get through this mostly because I found it hard to get through Elias' chapters. I just didn't care about his storyline and what ultimately happened to him. Laia was the one character that I found myself more attached to. The world and world building,inspired by ancient Rome, was interesting and my favorite part of this story. 4/5<br />
<br />
<b><a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/9012.Holidays_on_Ice" target="_blank">Holidays on Ice</a></b> by David Sedaris<br />
This is a collection of short essays related to Christmas and the holidays (like the title suggests). I'm pretty sure this book is out of print, at least that's what the sticker on the book said when I bought it. My biggest problem with this book was that the stories were not all equally as good. David Sedaris is quirky and funny, but there were a couple of pieces that didn't seem to go with the others. 4/5<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/82436.Looking_for_Alibrandi" target="_blank"><b>Looking for Alibrandi</b></a> by Melina Marchetta<br />
I got this book on BookOutlet because of <a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOVfxzkvKnKZclBdii16dHg" target="_blank">Liana's Reviews</a>, an Australian booktuber. I loved this book. I had never heard about it before, and didn't know there was even a <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XTXKpzTURw" target="_blank">movie</a>. It's a coming of age story featuring Josephine Alibrandi in her last year at her Catholic high school. I'm glad I hadn't heard about it before, because I went in with no expectations and was definitely surprised by how much I enjoyed. It's a bit like an older, more serious version of the <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/402013.Angus_Thongs_and_Full_Frontal_Snogging" target="_blank">Georgia Nicolson</a> books. 5/5<br />
<br />
<b><a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/29562589-jonesy" target="_blank">Jonesy, Vol. One</a></b> by Sam Humphries, Caitlin Rose Boyle<br />
I have a <a href="http://emmalikesbooks.blogspot.com/2017/01/jonesy-volume-one-fangirl-cupid.html" target="_blank">review of this which you can read here</a>. This is a cute and colorful comic about a girl named Jonesy who has somehow received the ability to make people fall in love except with herself. It's a fun and diverse read that you should definitely pick up. 5/5<br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by <a href="http://www.brokeandbookish.com/p/top-ten-tuesday-other-features.html" target="_blank">The Broke and The Bookish</a>. <span style="text-align: justify;">This week's theme is Top Ten Favorite Graphic Novels/Comics or Top Ten Graphic Novels/Comics on my TBR. </span>This is my favorite Top Ten Tuesdays. This is probably one of my favorite genres. I could talk about comics and graphic novels forever! All of these are comics except one, but I've included some volumes of some of the titles if they're out. Volumes are basically a collection of the first five or six issues of a comic. Even though I love Saga I'm not including it, because I feel like everyone's heard of Saga already.</div>
</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="320" src="https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1452831355l/25852959.jpg" width="208" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/25852959-archie-vol-1" target="_blank">Archie | Volume One</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
By Mark Waid, Fiona Staples, Annie Wu, and Veronica Fish</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
This Archie reboot is great if you weren't really into the old Archie comics. It's a bit more modern and less cheesy than the original ones. Even if you did like the older ones it's a great take on the same characters you've probably grown to love.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">

<a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/22554204-lumberjanes-vol-1" target="_blank">Lumberjanes | Volume One: Beware the Kitten Holy</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
By Noelle Stevenson, Grace Ellis, Shannon Watters, Brooke A. Allen</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I would describe Lumberjanes as a Cartoon Network show in print. One of the big criticisms that I've heard about Lumberjanes is that there storyline is all over the place, but I think that's what I like about it. There's so much going on that it's hard to contain. The characters are are vibrant in more ways than one. The characters are diverse and unique.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
By G. Willow Wilson and Adrian Alphona</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Ms. Marvel has become one of my favorite superheroes and my favorite comic. It's about Kamala Khan a teenage girl from Jersey City. She idolizes Marvel superheroes like Captain Marvel. Then one day, thanks to a mysterious fog, she develops superpowers. I've read the first four volumes so far, and I love the series more and more with each one that I read.</div>

<a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/29800.Scott_Pilgrim_Volume_1" target="_blank">Scott Pilgrim | Volume One: Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
By Bryan Lee O'Malley</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
This graphic novel series is made up of six volumes following Scott Pilgrim. He falls in love with this girl named Ramona Flowers and in order to get her he needs to defeat all seven of her evil ex-boyfriends. It seems a little odd, but I became so obsessed with this series when I first read it. They even made a movie of the series that, in my opinion, was really well done. They recreated a lot of the frames directly from the book into the movie. They stuck real close to the book and is one of the best book to movie adaptation. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">

<a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18630542-seconds" target="_blank">Seconds</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
by Bryan Lee O'Malley</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Another one by Bryan Lee O'Malley! This is quite different from Scott Pilgrim. Seconds follows a young chef, Katie. This mysterious girl appears with these magical mushrooms and offers them to Katie and tells her that by eating the mushrooms she can get a second change or a do over at something. It still has the signature Bryan Lee O'Malley style characters, but the storyline is what sets it apart. Really great read.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
By Nick Spencer and Joe Eisma</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It's been a while since I've read this one, so most of the details are fuzzy. It's about a group of kids all born on the same day who go to this boarding school (or maybe it's an academy). There's a reason to why they've been all gathered together, but we don't know why. I never really found out because I never got around to picking up the second volume. If you're not into a straightforward linear storyline this one's probably not for you. Things get a little weird.<br />

<a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/20299683-rat-queens-vol-1" target="_blank">Rat Queens | Volume One: Sass and Sorcery</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
By Kurtis J. Wiebe, Roc Upchurch</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Rat Queens is about this group of diverse badass woman. If you've read Lumberjanes and it wasn't your cup of tea, but you liked the girl power and friendship this might be more for you. It's like a more grown up version of Lumberjanes. There was an incident with the creators of Rat Queens which you can probably Google to find out more about, so some people have decided to not continue with this after volume three. I've only read the first volume and I loved it, so if anything I would recommend to pick that one up.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
By Brian K. Vaughan, Cliff Chiang, Matthew Wilson</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
This is one of the ones that's best going in knowing little. It takes place in the late '80's and follow four 12 year old newspaper delivery girls who encounter something strange one night. This comic is fairly new, the first two volumes are out now.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">

<a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/32994377-slam-1" target="_blank">Slam!</a> | Issue #1</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
By Pamela Ribbon, Veronica Fish</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Slam! is actually one of the newest comics out there. They are currently only three issues in. The third issue just came out like last week. If you liked Whip It with Ellen Page, you'll most likely really enjoy this. It follows two girls who just started skating. They tried out for a league and made it onto two different teams, and it follows their journey. I've only read the first issue and I'm already in love with this comic.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">

<a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/31390219-the-backstagers-1" target="_blank">The Backstagers | Act One</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
By James Tynion IV, Rian Sygh</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is another new comic from Boom! Box (There the one's who put of Lumberjanes, and Slam!). The first five issues are out, but if you want to wait for Volume One, it comes out in July of this year. Jory is a new student at St. Genesius and while he's at a meeting for the drama club for the first he's sent off on an errand to find the backstage crew. When he finds out what they're up to he realizes he might have found where he belongs. Again, I've only read the first issue, but I'm already loving this series.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="background-color: white; font-family: inherit; text-align: left;">A sarcastic teenager with the powers of cupid unleashes her preternatural matchmaking abilities on her school with hilarious and charming results.</span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: inherit; text-align: left;">Jonesy is a self-described “cool dork” who spends her time making zines nobody reads, watching anime, and listening to riot grrrl bands and 1D simultaneously. But she has a secret nobody knows. She has the power to make people fall in love! Anyone. With anything. She’s a cupid in plaid. With a Tumblr. There’s only one catch—it doesn’t work on herself. She’s gonna have to find love the old-fashioned way, and in the meantime, figure out how to distract herself from the real emotions she inevitably has to face when her powers go wrong… [GoodReads]</span></blockquote>

<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">What I Thought.</span></h4>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">Boom! Box continuously puts out titles that grab my attention. They make it a point to include a diverse cast of characters in all of their books. The stories are lighthearted and funny. One of the more popular titles from their line up is Lumberjanes. Jonesy has the same feel in that it's fun and doesn't take its self too serious. At the beginning Jonesy can come off as slightly immature, but I mean who doesn't when it comes to fangirling over their favorite person/celebrity. There's never a dull moment with her and the stuff that she gets herself into because of her crazy ideas. But you </span>definitely<span style="font-family: inherit;"> get to see her heart and her good intentions through all of it especially when it comes to the people she loves. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">Her ability to make people fall in love is an interesting addition to her character, especially with how excited she gets over things. It's not explained how she got the powers. It's sort of mentioned in the beginning, but since Jonesy doesn't really understand how she got them and we're being told the story through her, we don't get to see how.</span></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">The pages are jam packed full of colors that make me want to rip out the pages and hang them up on my wall. If you can get your hands on a physical copy of this you'll appreciate the art so much. I love going through the Cover Gallery in the back of volumes to see the different styles and how different artists draw the same character. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">I really enjoyed Jonesy and the shenanigans she gets into. It's a colorful and fun read that you shouldn't take too serious. My favorite part is that it's diverse and original. I can't wait to read the next volume.</span></div>

</div>
<div class="separator" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMMvw0bujLvwH_TM-T00N-hh6VW8ftxdFh1RN4GJ8QX0m4OrpZu1omJtyxyp5SZY3639fTBCQ2X1aL9EgpLCXErlCPO9A76SGnYv6ycN8vShEDTJvcQbvuQbmIjNlZmsQK8YAe3ZkVvGM/s1600/diytbrjarheader.png" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: justify;">
This year I'm doing a TBR jar again. Last year I made a slight attempt at it. Some months I picked a book out and read it, sometimes I picked one out and I wouldn't read it until a month later. After a while I stopped picking them out, but that was because of the whole reading slump.</div>
<div class="separator" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: justify;">
This time I thought I would make it a bit more exciting. I didn't have an actual jar last time, it was a pouch from Fandom of the Month Club subscription box. Which was fine, but it wasn't the same as picking out of a jar. </div>
<div class="separator" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: justify;">
So this isn't really a DIY tutorial, but more of a "look this is how I made it, maybe you want to do it too?"</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<b>SUPPLIES</b><br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>a mason jar</li>
<li>washi tape</li>
<li>alphabet stickers</li>
<li>deco stickers</li>
<li>paper </li>
<li>pen</li>
<li>scissors</li>
</ul>
<div>
<br /></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>TIME TO DIY!</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Write out your TBR list on a sheet of paper. Cut out the titles creating long strips. Fold the strips and then use a small piece of washi tape to keep it together.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFqtYWqZ09jhR1PWZBf1oWRLdw7hRtQNhqkf7H_cfYP01Gg_IhhdfaQPfYL6cJM5uCgnQt4vYljDuCThN_XYoIgjJVl48k4V5Qttf8KK51ZDk5o2rGRjla0J8aGtxptfH8fsxJr0jbZDM/s1600/diytbrjar5.png" /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
If you're using a tomato sauce jar or something like that you're going to want to remove all of the labels. You can do that by running the jar under warm water and using a rough sponge. (There's probably another way to do this, but this is how I was able to remove the labels from the jar I used.)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_PzHzsUE5ArXMXEWIb_lRTUUsELAAk6sl2VVaH0JIx69Q0EDQRuPLtNlyUGVRMPieFRolx3Y7B1XIGfZjlbQArVNUSQoqyyjR7o_1lcnR_JAimN76wk00s4X6h-M-CUzzhTpTWz8lmRU/s1600/diytbrjar0.png" /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Before decorating the jar make sure it's completely dry. Now go ahead and decorate your jar!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I used alphabet stickers to spell out TBR Jar. Then I used some deco stickers from two Etsy shops. The stack of books stickers are from <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/286559831/study-books-kawaii-school-reading?ga_search_query=book&ref=shop_items_search_1" target="_blank">Fox and Cactus</a>, and the girl reading stickers are from <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/502647831/ps2-002-book-nerd-dahlia-planner-squad?ga_search_query=reading&ref=shop_items_search_1" target="_blank">The Littlest Planner</a>. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDDvSRZlMeR4GCkRG3X6LswlWDyWm9vVq7XTGvbJtPNCCTV1H27bBre5_sdt6gyM-fKCSs4hjU3oW8j-moWNtNvPibwmFu7nXGOPhWyTSttpn-c4PvfDo41aLb6QUNo43SFmbMAkyV-_s/s1600/diytbrjar3.png" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7MK0eDgNyt9XNWS0FJiuma5gmzrLKS78orP6PEyzy14rG5bqFU4mvUhzubyTO45F_XRJ_SJLYNctIxOvGYoUDWH_ItL2-cliVK-ElZRqlBSxjquacUMpOaCTtW_BWjBjxkCuV8WhyphenhyphengcE/s1600/diytbrjar4.png" /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I used washi to decorate the lid, but you could probably use some scrapbook paper, use the lid to trace the size you need and then glue it on. But I didn't have any that I liked.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_q2t1mSv6mFcKyQ5JedaEPo9_NdRbEiAtJRgIUbOoJsoBSsGJ-VfPcVObRzfiauT5kde_MDi14tNrRiJFiBqs9-IhLOWiBYq12j13zVFbZEZmdymHOPenJCg9AUKAHei7b3tK2uBeE-M/s1600/diytbrjar6.png" /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Now put your TBR picks inside the jar. Shake them around, and pick out your first TBR read!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

2016 Reading Goals Wrap Up</h4>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<a href="http://emmalikesbooks.blogspot.com/2015/12/reading-goals-2016.html" target="_blank">Last year</a> I beat myself up for not reading enough and not reaching my Goodreads challenge of 50 books. Well this year I did a lot worse and read a total of 28 books. My second goal was to read more of the books I already own, and I did okay with this. I'm reaching for books on my shelf more. I created a TBR jar and I was doing well with that until I stopped pulling books from the jar. I've gotten rid of a lot of books and I'm continuing to do this with books that I just don't plan on reading or rereading. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<h4 style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
2017 Reading Goals!</h4>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
After my mostly failed reading goals from last year I've decided to refocus my goals.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
1) <b>Goodreads </b>|<b> </b>I set my Goodreads Reading Challenge to 12 books. I've decided that if I can read at least one book (not graphic novel or comic book) a month then that's amazing and a lot better than I did all of last year. </div>

2) <b>Read Books On My Shelf</b> | I want to keep on reading books that I already own. Of course, I've added more to this in the past year, but hopefully I'll get to the ones that I've had for a while.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
3) <b>TBR Jar</b> | I'm going to redo this and make a new list of the books that I own. This will help me get to the books that maybe I hadn't though of picking up anytime soon or even forgot that I had.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
4) <b>Read Diversely and Widely</b> | Diversity is a topic that's been brought to the forefront of the book community this past year and it's one that's very important to me. I want to continue reading diverse books and reading books in genres outside of what I usually read.</div>

<span style="text-align: justify;">I'm kicking off 2017 with a readathon! I don't know if that's a good idea, because last year's attempt was not good. I attempted Bout of Books last year around the same time, and I completely failed. Like really bad. I'm hoping this year I can do a lot better. I don't know what books I want to read, but there are a few that I'll probably end up choosing from. Like last year I am going to make one post with all my updates on it.</span><br />

<b>wednesday november 30th</b><br />
I have to write 6,800 words today. Compared to last year this isn't such a big deal, so I think I've got this!<br />
11:00 am - Okay, I did the things I had to get out of the way to start writing. Let's go!<br />
1:00 pm - I just participated in a 1k30min challenge in the NaNoWordSprints twitter, and I got 951 words! I was so close to getting the 1k, but still this is good!<br />
1:21 pm - Total word count is currently 45,016. I'm going to go eat something, clean up a bit, and then come back.<br />
3:52 pm - After an unexpected run to the post office, I'm back and writing.<br />
5:53 pm - I have 3,968 words left to write, and about 6 hours. There's a 1k30min coming up at 5:55, hopefully I can get close to 1,000 more words.<br />
7:36 pm - Only 3,000 words left!<br />
9:36 pm - Just finished another sprint, and I'm up to 48,582 words right now. I'm getting there!<br />
10:32 pm - Had some pizza and got up to 49,063. Ahhh!!! I'm so close!! I'm gonna go put on my winner shirt that I pre-ordered and at one point thought I would have to throw out.<br />
11:17 pm - I did it. I actually did it. I won NaNoWriMo for the second time with 50,061 words written total.<br />

summary // november 2016<br />
This month was insane to say the least. I knew I was setting myself up for a challenge attempting to take on NaNoWriMo once again. This was my third year attempting it and I thought maybe last year's win was a fluke, so I needed to prove it to myself that I could do it especially a year where I had an idea for a story that I loved. I hit a point where I honestly thought that there was no way I was going to make it. That time during the election and the week and that follow were really tough for me. I didn't feel like writing anything, and when I did I was just pushing myself to write anything for the sake of writing.<br />
Then I hit a point around Thanksgiving where I was stressing myself out in more ways than one. Work was killing me. The aftermath of the election was constant. The holiday/gift buying stress was beginning. And then ultimately the panic of whether or not I could catch up with the word count.<br />
Overall I'm glad I did it. It pushed me in more ways than one and I proved it to myself which is the most important part of it all. I also now have a base of as story that I can continue to work with.<br />

<b>tuesday november 22nd</b><br />
I got some coffee with my sister after a long day of work that went on even longer than it should have. I was so tired that all I wanted to do was take a shower and sleep until November was over, but I had to get to writing.<br />

<b>wednesday november 23rd</b><br />
I had to work today, but it was only a half day and even then I couldn't write that much more than yesterday when I actually had like the craziest work day ever.<br />

<b>thursday november 24th</b><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Happy Thanksgiving! And now onto the sad part...<br />
I think the stress of falling behind has finally hit me, and I'm sorting of freaking out. I thought I would be able to catch up, but I just keep hitting these slumps. It's weird because there are days where I feel like writing 2,000 words is so easy and then there are other days where I'm struggling to get like 100 words out. Also saw Fantastic Beasts today.<br />
words written: 1,306</div>

<br />
<b>friday november 25th</b><br />
I really had nothing planned for today, but somehow ended up with almost no time to do anything. I thought I wasn't going to do the whole Black Friday mall shopping thing and then I found myself at the mall for like three or four hours. Worst. Idea. Ever.<br />
Also Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life came out today and that just destroyed my writing time. Do I regret it? Not right now.<br />

<b>saturday november 26th</b><br />
Okay, so a little recap of the past few days. I was exhausted. Big time. Physically and mentally. Which you can probably tell by the amount of words I got done yesterday. It was painful. This month has been one of the craziest, most exhausting (can't think of another word) ones of my life. I can't wait for December. I could really use some holiday cheer right about now.<br />
<i>Now onto what happened today:</i><br />
Today I was actually a lot busier than I have been, but somehow managed to get out words. I think that was partially due to the fact that I went to a cafe with my sister and we hung out there for about an hour. That kind of got the story flowing, and made it easier to just keep writing.<br />
words written: 2,334<br />
word count: 36,860<br />
<br />
<b>sunday november 27th</b><br />
I stayed up past midnight on Saturday and kept going with the "flow" I was feeling and wrote another 1,000 words by 1:00 am.<br />
words written: 3,337<br />
word count: 40,197<br />
<br />
<b>monday november 28th</b><br />
At this point I'm just pushing myself to write. There's moments where I remember why I love my story, and that helps motivate me to keep on writing. But then I look at how much time I have left, and I start freaking out. Again.<br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">
I attempted a new approach today and did some writing by hand. I've noticed I'm able to concentrate more on just the content when I write by hand. The only thing is my hand cramps up and then I have to either count the words or type them up after to add them onto my word document. Also, I feel like I could have gotten more words in since I didn't work today, but I mismanaged my time and here we are.</div>

12:24 pm - Well, hello. We're back with the time stamps today. I've been trying some of the NaNoWriMo twitter word sprints which have been helping a ton. Don't underestimate the power of word sprints! I've written 1,186 words alone on just sprints. I don't have to work today which will give me more time to try to crank out words.<br />
9:45 pm - I wrote about 1,000 more words in the past hour or so. I'm going to try to get 1,000 more for today.<br />
I'm slowly, but surely catching up. Thanks to the word sprints!<br />

<b>sunday november 20th</b><br />
I had planned to spend a large chunk of time writing today, but I ended doing some stuff with my family and just ran out of time. I at least got the minimum word count in for the day. I sort of calculated what I have to do to catch up and figured out that I have to write 3,000 words each day for the next three days if I want to catch up before the 30th. I don't know if that's going to happen because tomorrow I have a crazy work day. Tuesday is another crazy work day and then I was planning on going to see Fantastic Beasts that day as well. So, I don't know how this is going to go, but I'm going to try so hard to win.<br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">
So yesterday I didn't write a single word. It was election day in the United States, and it was stressful and crazy and I couldn't find the energy or the motivation to write anything for my story. This morning I woke up and found out the news and feel so drained and sad. It's been a long day and I've been torn on whether or not to push myself to write today.<br />

I finally got around to writing today. Not as much as I wanted, but after having a few very rough days I'm glad to be getting back into the swing of things.<br />

<b>saturday november 12th</b><br />
It's getting easier to want to write, but I feel like this weekend is a bit busy for me that I might not be able to catch up just yet. I'm really trying to push through and write as much as I can everyday.<br />

I'm going to try to update better this coming week. We're at the halfway point and I'm just using all my energy to try to catch up that I'm forgetting to update. Election day and the day after really screwed me up and from the looks of it, for a lot of other people in the United States that had the same feelings regarding the results. Here's hoping that this coming week is a hell of a lot better.<br />

<b>Tuesday November 1st</b><br />
12:15 am - Here we go. I'm going to try to write something, but I don't want to stay up too late because I'm waking up early tomorrow to try to get words in before work.<br />
9:00 pm - I overslept this morning and didn't end up writing anything before work.<br />
11:54 pm - I'm trying to write as much as I can right now. My computer kept freezing, and after some googling I found out that it's one of the extensions on the chrome browser. Back to writing for the last few minutes of day one!<br />
WORDS TODAY = 1,507<br />
TOTAL WORD COUNT = 1,507<br />
<br />
<br />
<b>Wednesday November 2nd</b><br />
3:55 pm - I'm just starting to write right now. I had the day off today, but I woke up late and had to do some stuff before I could sit down and write.<br />
7:01 pm - I forgot to update earlier, but I wrote for about 45 minutes and got about 300 words. I went to Starbucks, and got some coffe and am getting back to writing now.<br />
9:18 pm - For chunks of time I sort of find my groove and write a slew of words. Then at some point I hit a wall. Also I was watching NaNoWriMo vlogs, and I can't remember which one it was, but when I have time I'll look for it and add it, and she mentioned something about changing the color of the text to represent something you want to edit later on. So for me I've done red text for stuff that I possibly want to cut out, purple for stuff that I need to move around, and blue for stuff that I need to expand on.<br />
11:31 pm - I'm going to stop writing now. I'm at 3,405 words total which means I met the word goal for today. I don't know how tomorrow is going to turn out. I have to work until pretty late, but I have nothing planned for the evening which hopefully means I can crank out 1,667 words.<br />
WORDS TODAY = 1,898<br />
TOTAL WORD COUNT = 3,405<br />
<br />
<b><br /></b><b>Thursday November 3rd</b><br />
9:34 pm - I am just getting time to write, right now.<br />
WORDS TODAY = 1,417<br />
TOTAL WORD COUNT = 4,822<br />
<br />
<br />
<b>Friday November 4th</b><br />
<span style="font-weight: normal;">9:03 pm - I forgot to update the rest of yesterday and this morning, but I wrote around 700 words this morning. I did a couple of the NaNoWriMo hosted word sprints which helped me get about 400 words. I've also been updating my outline and bullet journal as I go. My outline slightly changed since yesterday, and I hadn't written it out so I lost my way for a bit, but I've re-outlined some parts and I think I'm back on track.</span><br />
10:10 pm - My current word total is 6,703 and I want to see if I can get a few hundred more to reach the 7,000 mark.<br />
11:02 pm - I'm going to stop now. I wrote a little more than I had to just in case, but I haven't watched an episode of Gilmore Girls in four days so I'm going to do that now.<br />
WORDS TODAY = 2,179<br />
TOTAL WORD COUNT = 7,001<br />
<br />
<b>Saturday November 5th</b><br />
Bad writing day.<br />
<div>
WORDS TODAY = 708</div>
TOTAL WORD COUNT = 7,709<br />
<br />
<b>Sunday November 6th</b><br />
I had sort of the same writing day as yesterday. I haven't hit a wall within the story, it's just one of those days where I felt like I was pulling the words out. I didn't feel like writing and I was forcing myself to just get the words on the page.<br />
WORDS TODAY = 934<br />
TOTAL WORD COUNT = 8,643<br />
<br />
<b>Monday November 7th</b><br />
12:46 am - I have a super busy day today, so I'm trying to ride the momentum of what I was writing right before midnight. I've already written half of what I wrote yesterday in 45 minutes. I really hope I don't fall behind. I'm going to try to catch up while the word count difference isn't that big.<br />
8:45 pm - I've been writing for a little bit. I worked until 6 today, and then I came home ate dinner. It took me a minute to settle down and start writing, but I've been writing at steady pace, hoping to keep this going.<br />
11:24 pm - I hit 10,000 words! Finally. That was yesterday's goal, and since there's only 36 minutes left in the day, I highly doubt I'm going to reach today's word goal of 11,666.<br />
WORDS TODAY = 1,820<br />
TOTAL WORD COUNT = 10,463<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="https://d3bhawflmd1fic.cloudfront.net/assets/crest-05e1a637392425b4d5225780797e5a76.png" /></div>
<br />
As soon as Preptober began I was on YouTube looking for any and all NaNoWriMo related videos including survival guides. Everyone preps for NaNoWriMo differently, so I thought I would share my own survival kit and tips.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Notebook</b></div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I have a problem with buying more notebooks than I actually need, especially since I'm not in school anymore. Most people probably use their phones for taking notes and write in their laptops which I use too, but writing in a notebook helps in a different way. You can write down and cross out things that you don't like anymore. Scribble notes here and there. It's a different way of working that really helps work out ideas.</div>
<br />
<b>Bullet Journal</b><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'm listing this separately from the notebook, because it's slightly different. You start out with some sort of notebook, but the way that it's set up is a little more organized than just scribbling random thoughts onto a page. I don't have mine set up as nicely as some other ones I've seen. Right now all I have are a few lists of things that I need to get ready before NaNoWriMo, a progress tracker, and a calendar. If I can get myself together before Tuesday, I'll hopefully have a list of my characters, character descriptions, and important plot points.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Pens/Markers</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I feel like I'm kind of a newbie in this department, but I bought a pack of thin Sharpie markers in every color that I'll need and hopefully that's a start. I've been using this pen that my sister gave me, the 0.5 gel PaperMate InkJoy, and I love the way it writes. I want to get a few more that I've seen people using in their bullet journals like the Micron, and Staedtler pens.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Coffee/Tea/Water</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Caffeinated drinks are a must during NaNoWriMo to get you through those long hours of staring at your computer screen. It's also important to remember to balance all that caffeine with a little hydration.<br />
<b><br /></b></div>
<b>Snacks</b><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I don't know exactly in which direction I'm taking this. The adult part of my brain says get mini carrot sticks, hummus, and other healthy stuff. Then there's the 5 year old in me that says get all the bag of chips, and cookies that you can find! I don't know. Maybe I'll a do a little bit of both.</div>
<br />
<b>Comfy Clothes</b><br />
Pajama bottoms, cozy socks, and comfy sweaters are essential when writing 50,000 words in a month. I'm going to start pulling out all my comfortable clothes and keeping them upfront and center for November. This also means I'm going to have to make some time to do laundry.<br />
<br />
<b>Music/Playlists</b><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This year I'm in the middle of making two playlists. I know some people don't like listening to music with lyrics when writing. I don't usually mind it, but I've been finding some good music that are both with lyrics and without, so I'm making two playlists so that I'll have one depending on my mood that day.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
<b>Pinterest</b><br />
Sometimes I think I spend more time looking through pins than actually writing, but having a board dedicated to your novel can help during those moments when you're not feeling it. My pinterest board is fully of pictures that make me think of my characters and setting, and helps jolt the writing urge when I'm uninspired. It helps to have it ready and full of pins before November 1st, so you don't waste time looking through endless pins.<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Candles</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I hadn't thought about this previous NaNos, but a part of setting a great writing environment are candles. November is a great month to buy candles, because most stores still have all the fall scents and at the same time are bringing in a lot of the winter holiday scents. Those two seasons have some of the best scents in my opinion.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
<b>Laptop and Charger</b><br />
This should be a given if you are going to be typing your NaNoWriMo novel (yes, there are people who write out their novels by hand). I had to order a new charger for my laptop, because I fried my last one and sometimes one of the best things to do during NaNo is to get out and go write at a coffee shop or even the library. You can't really write at a coffee shop if you don't have something portable that's charged.<br />
<br />
I'm probably forgetting other things, but these are my top ten things that I need in order to get through November and write 50,000 words. If there's something that has worked for you during NaNoWriMo let me know. Good luck to everyone participating in NaNoWriMo this year!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The NaNoWriMo tag was created by <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PjP-mr0hprY" target="_blank">Kirstina Horner on YouTube</a>!</div>
<br />
<b>1. How many times have you done NaNoWriMo?</b><br />
I have done NaNoWriMo twice before, so this will be my third year participating.<br />
<b><br /></b>
<b>2. How did you first find out about NaNoWriMo?</b><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I heard about it through the BookTube community. I can't remember exactly which video it was, but I'm pretty sure it was one of <a href="https://www.youtube.com/user/Katytastic" target="_blank">Kat's videos (Katytastic)</a>. She seems to be one of the first people on BookTube or YouTube to make videos about it.</div>
<br />
<b>3. What was the name of the first novel you attempted with NaNo?</b><br />
I never ended up giving it a name, because I never finished it. Sad.<br />
<br />
<b>4. Give a one sentence summary of what you're writing this year.</b><br />
Early 1900's abandoned hotel discovered by a girl who wasn't supposed to find it.<br />
<br />
<b>5. What's the best writing advice you've ever been given?</b><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I don't know what the best writing advice I've ever gotten is, but one good piece of advice I got from a professor one time was to try to step away from whatever it was we were writing for some time and then go back to it. Sometimes we get so caught up in the writing that it's good to take a break, and come back with a fresh perspective.</div>
<br />
<b>6. Did you ever take a year off from NaNo? Why?</b><br />
No, but I did try Camp NaNo one time, and I haven't tried it again.<br />
<br />
<b>7. What's your biggest inspiration when figuring out what to write?</b><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Listening to music. I used to do this thing when I was younger where I would listen to a song, close my eyes and visualize a music video for it. I guess you could say I kind of still do the same thing. Music videos sometimes have story arcs in them.</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>8. The first sentence from one of your novels.</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">"No
one should be up at this time except for those people who need to be somewhere." I don't like it. This is from my NaNoWriMo story from last year, which is basically my only completed novel so I didn't have much of a choice. I've never gone back and revised it, so it's just stayed that way. </span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"> </span></span>
</div>
<b>9. Why do you love writing?</b><br />
I love writing, because I get to create stories and characters of my own. I get to go to these places that I make up, and become other people who are completely different from me.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<a href="http://nanowrimo.org/participants/born4this" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="235" src="https://d1lj9l30x2igqs.cloudfront.net/nano-2013/files/2016/09/NaNoWriMo_2016_WebBanner_Participant.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It's almost that time for <a href="http://nanowrimo.org/how-it-works" target="_blank">NaNoWriMo</a> again! If you don't know what NaNoWriMo is it's <b>National Novel Writing Month</b> where writers all over attempt to write a novel of a minimum of <i>50,000 words</i> in the month of November. I know that sounds crazy and insane, and it's because it is. Of course it's not supposed to be a finished novel. I don't think there isn't a book out there that hasn't gone through revisions a bunch of times before becoming the final book that we come to read and love. The novel you end up writing is more like a REALLY rough draft of a potential book, but NaNo is a way to help stop the procrastinating and putting off that story we know we can rite, and helps get those words down onto the page.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="192" src="https://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m9010sXDqf1qdhag9o1_500.gif" width="320" /></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This will be <b>my third year</b> participating in NaNoWriMo. The first year was a complete disaster. I had no idea what I was getting myself into especially because I was in school and working part time. I fell behind and that's one of the worst things you can possibly do during NaNo. <a href="http://emmalikesbooks.blogspot.com/2015/12/nanowrimo-2015-final-week.html" target="_blank"><b>Last year</b></a>, my second year, I knew what to expect and how to plan my time. I also wasn't in school anymore and was able to win NaNoWriMo! I flew through the month of November by the seat of my pants. Sort of. There are two types of writers, pantsers and planners. Pantsers, don't plan their stories in advance and planners do. Last year, I was a pantser. I didn't plan or outline what I wanted to write about, I just went in with a general idea I had for a story and wrote whatever came to me everyday.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://media.giphy.com/media/A7rTdPxXP9fqM/giphy.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="171" src="https://media.giphy.com/media/A7rTdPxXP9fqM/giphy.gif" width="320" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Although I liked doing that then, I don't think that's the approach I'm going to be taking this year. I've had this idea that has stuck with me for a while now, and I haven't gotten sick of it which is great. October is known as <b>Preptober </b>to those who like planning out their stories before November comes along. I have already started outlining, plotting, and detailing characters, but I am more nervous now than when I didn't have an outline. I think it's because I know the work that I'm going to have to put in whereas before I was kind of going in blind. Sort of like by not outlining I was in denial that it was actually happening, so I faced the fact that I had to write 50,000 words on November 1st.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="https://bestanimations.com/Books/writing/lisa-simpson-writing-animated-gif.gif" /></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Anyways, in preperation for NaNoWriMo I wanted to do a series of posts on how you can <b>prep</b>, and some of the things that you may need to <b>survive NaNoWriMo</b>. I'll be updating my progress throughout November, most likely I'll do the same type of posts as last year with the <b>daily updates </b>condensed into a weekly post, but who knows I might change my mind in a couple of weeks.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

Hello! I know, it's been a while since I've posted. I hit sort of a wall when it came to post ideas, and ended up taking a sort of break. Just because I haven't been posting doesn't mean I haven't been reading. I'll list the books and what I rated them. At this point I don't remember my detailed thoughts, just my overall feelings on the book, so I'll just <b>include the rating I gave them on Goodreads.</b><br />
<br />
As you might have figured out from the title of the post, I started reading Harry Potter for the first time. Technically I've already read The Sorcerer's Stone for a children's literature class, but I waited until the last minute and only read the very first part. Even then I sort of rushed through it. So I always meant to go back to it, and I finally did in July. It's safe to say that I love the series so far, and understand why so many people love it.<br />

That's all I read this summer. I haven't been reading a ton of books, but I'm reading a bit more consistently now which is good...at least I think so. Next month is <b>NaNoWriMo</b> and once again I'll be participating. I'm going to be doing a post on that very soon! I'm excited for it, but the downside is that I probably won't get much reading in or even at all.<br />

I usually do these posts for the people who prefer buying paperbacks over hardcovers whether it be because paperbacks are cheaper or because they are easier to carry around. Paperback releases aren't really promoted as much as the brand new hardcovers, so I put it all in one post to make it easier.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
But this month there are quite a few cover changes along with the Ms. Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children movie tie-in edition. There is also a B&N exclusive paperback that contains movie photos. Let me know what you think of the cover changes. Also, do you mind movie/television tie-in editons?</div>

I'll be do one post with all of my updates throughout the week as well as my wrap up. I did the same thing <a href="http://emmalikesbooks.blogspot.com/2015/08/booktube-thon-updateswrap-up.html" target="_blank">last year</a> when I participated. I have an idea of the books I want to read, but haven't really set a concrete TBR. Wish me luck!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The <a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZhmQgR4l0MMisH-OGO729Q" target="_blank">Booktubeathon</a> is a readathon on booktube started by Ariel Bissett. This one starts on July 18th to July 24th. There are reading challenges, but they are not manditory. There are also video challenges since it is about the booktube community, and this year bookstagram has been included.</div>
<h4 style="text-align: justify;">
<br /><div style="text-align: center;">
Challenges</div>
</h4>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<strike>1. Read a book with yellow on the cover.</strike></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
2. Read a book only after sunset.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
3. Read a book you discovered through booktube.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
4. Read a book by one of your favorite authors.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
5. Read a book that is older than you.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
6. Read and watch a book-to-movie adaptation.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
7. Read seven books.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<h4 style="text-align: center;">
Daily Updates</h4>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Day 1</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
- I read a little bit of Dorothy Must Die, but I'm not counting it towards the readathon. I didn't even get to read much of it because I got a really bad headache.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Day 2</b></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
- I finished reading Dorothy Must Die, and picked up my first actual book for the readathon, More Happy Than Not by Adam Silvera. I'm using this book to complete the <b>Read a book with yellow on the cover </b>challenge. I only got a couple of pages into it before I fell asleep.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Day 3</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
- I started reading More Happy Than Not and it's starting off kind of slow. I tried reading this at work, but didn't get much of it read until I got home and read up to page 111.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Day 4</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
- I read up to page 190. This book is really hard to get through, not because of the writing, but because of the subject matter. The book really took a turn from the slow pacing in the beginning. It's like whatever you thought was going on, just throw it out the window. Personally, I don't think this is the type of book you should just read through in one shot, and probably the wrong choice for a readathon, but it's a little too late for that now.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Day 5 and Day 6</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
- I forgot to log how many pages I read on day 5, but I didn't read that much and then just finished it on day 6. Most likely I'll have a post up on my thoughts on this book. I'm glad I got to read this book, but it was hard for me to process some of the stuff that happened in the book and so I kept stepping away from it to gather my thoughts. I didn't end up starting a new book on day 6,</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Day 7</b></div>
</div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
- I started reading Looking for Alibrandi by Melina Marchetta. This book was meant for the <b>Read a book you discovered through booktube</b>. I first heard about this book from <a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOVfxzkvKnKZclBdii16dHg" target="_blank">Liana at Liana's Reviews</a>. I didn't even expect to finish it today, but I was in the mood to read it. Hopefully I can keep this momentum and get a couple books in before the month is over.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkfb1P1Pe97NwzRrXrRsaY0ItmNWadspS4oFBv5lhP6iA5sAUfiKdYIOtVgUM_U5IIRQ-9yXFbK-T4NQgZ208GowMbqwu5DQs0gZ2etfAcQHjiKgunFifW85x9goO2-TK8bH7yCO0Ggwo/s1600/weekend+reads.png" /></div>
<br />
<br />
Recently I said I was going to participate in the TBR Takedown. Twice to be exact. I failed exactly both of those times to read a single book. Not even from my TBR just in general. So now, here we are a few days a away from the Booktubeathon, which I've participated in once before and I'm considering participating again. Even though I don't have a booktube channel I've always sort of enjoyed the reading challenges from the Booktubeathon which are not mandatory requirements, but always fun. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So far this year my readathon track record is horrendous and I'm a little scared to even consider attempting another one especially one like the Booktubeathon. I know it's supposed to be fun, but when I can't even read a single book during these readathons it takes a little bit more to motivate myself to try again.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I mean, it's not like I haven't been reading. Sort of. I'm always reading something, it's just that it takes some time for me to finish a book. I keep getting sidetracked or sometimes I just don't feel like reading. It seems like this is starting to change though, which is kind of pushing me to participate.<br />
Anyways, this is what I'll be reading this weekend and (hopefully) finishing so that I can (maybe) participate in the Booktubeathon.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige -I've got 1/4 or so of the book left. Most likely finishing this today.<br />
Zenith by Sasha Alsberg and Lindsey Cummings - I've read a little bit of it the day I got it and haven't picked it up since, because I've been reading other books, but hoping to finish it this weekend.<br />
Maybe you'll see a Booktubeathon TBR soon, maybe not...we'll just have to wait and see, I guess. Also, I didn't read this post through.....oops.<br />

I haven't done this post in a year, but I thought I'd bring it back maybe once in a while. I like collecting a list of books that are coming out in paperback, because we can't always buy the latest hardcovers. Here's a list of the paperbacks that are coming out this month along with cover changes.</div>
